Practice Educator - Imaging

Job overview

We’re looking for a dedicated Practice Educator to support the development of Imaging staff and students across all modalities. You’ll work closely with the Imaging Operational Manager and Modality Managers to identify training needs, deliver impactful education, and promote a culture of learning and continuous improvement. This role includes supporting undergraduate students, apprentices, and Assistant Practitioners, while maintaining your own clinical competencies through hands-on duties. Main duties of the job

  • Work collaboratively with the Imaging Operational Manager and Modality Managers to assess training needs and support workforce development.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training delivered, ensuring continuous improvement in clinical practice.
  • Develop and facilitate educational programmes for Imaging staff and learners, including undergraduate students from HEIs, apprentice Radiographers/Sonographers, and Assistant Practitioners.
  • Support learners in the clinical environment, promoting best practice and professional growth.
  • Undertake clinical duties to maintain personal competencies and provide hands-on support to new staff during training and induction.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc Radiography (Hons) or Diploma of College of Radiographers (or equivalent)
  • Certificate in cannulation
  • HCPC Registered
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate training to P.G.DIP level

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience of working in an acute hospital
  • Extensive experience in general radiographic practice
  • Extensive experience in specialised modality practice
  • Experience working with undergraduate and post-graduate students
  • Extensive experience in teaching/supporting staff within the Imaging department
Desirable criteria
  • Extensive experience within the NHS

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Professional knowledge across the spectrum of an Imaging department
  • Sound scientific and technical knowledge relevant to the post
  • Awareness of all legislation and safety requirements relevant to the post
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous personal professional development & CPD Portfolio
  • Awareness of different teaching requirements from different training routes.
  • Commitment to governance and audit

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to communicate highly complex and sensitive information to patients and staff
  • Deal sensitively with patients and staff from all cultural backgrounds; able to pass on knowledge to others in a clear and concise way
  • Skilled in performing wide range of imaging examinations and modalities; participate in first line image interpretation
  • Computer literacy, with excellent computer / keyboard skills / mouse skills
  • Ability to organise workload between clinical and non-clinical duties; able to work well under pressure
  • Ability to liaise with higher education institutes and co-ordinate study time and timetables for all post graduate and undergraduate training
  • Ability to travel; able to work flexibly and adapt to changing situations
