Job overview
The post-holder is responsible for direct clinical care for individual patients and groups of patients within their area of work. This includes the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care from admission to discharge.
Main duties of the job
Work as part of the ward team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care in line with best practice. Seek expert advice and support from specialist nurses when planning and delivering care to patients.
Maintain accurate and clear documentation of all nursing care and communication with the multidisciplinary team.
Communicate with patients and relatives in a sensitive manner, providing information regarding care and progress as required.
Support bereaved and distressed relatives when required, referring to senior staff or bereavement service as required.
Liaise with the multidisciplinary team to ensure clinical care is optimised from admission to discharge.

Experience

- Some Knowledge of surgical experience
Desirable criteria
- Previous surgical experience in a ward setting
- Experience of audit
- Experience of mentoring, assessing and teaching
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Demonstrates an awareness of organisational and clinical issues from admission to discharge
- Basic IT skills- use of PiMs, MS Word, Outlook
- Demonstrate an ability to prioritise own workloads
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of and ability to effectively manage clinical resources
