Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Audio Typist/ Secretarial Support to join the Oral and Maxillofacial Unit at Bedford Hospital. The role will involve working within a friendly and welcoming multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The main tasks will be to complete Audio Typing for clinics using digital dictation.  It is essential that clinical letters are completed within the appropriate time frames, with accuracy and efficiency. 

You will also provide administration support services to the team, to include managing incoming and outgoing post, referrals and other related admin tasks.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To prioritise and efficiently organise own workload on a daily basis to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • To provide a complete administrative service including scanning to Medi-viewer, opening and distributing post and any other administrative task within reasonable limits.
  • To provide audio typing of clinical letters and have knowledge of medical terminology.
  • To be responsible for providing and receiving patient information, including results of investigations, maintaining tact and diplomacy at all times with due regard to confidentiality.
  • Answer telephone enquiries - e.g. from GP’s, patients, relatives etc. in a courteous and diplomatic manner, using judgement to establish priority and course of action.
  • To liaise and maintain close working relationships with other administrators, wards, departments and community based health services to ensure and smooth and efficient service.
  • To adhere to Trust policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good Standard of General Education
  • ECDL qualification or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Medical Terminology Qualification
  • Business Admin or Customer Services NVQ
  • RSA Typing Qualification or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of meeting deadlines involving high volumes of data within strict/tight timeframes.
  • Experience of working within a team and independently.
  • Microsoft Packages
Desirable criteria
  • Previous Experience of working within the NHS.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the need of confidentiality awareness at all times.
  • Understanding of the importance of accuracy in a data collection.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of 18week and Cancer Pathways
