Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Bank Pharmacist to join our experienced and welcoming team, dedicated to delivering a high-quality clinical Oncology and Haematology service. Ideal candidates will bring previous hospital experience, particularly in aseptics and oncology, and be ready to take the next step into a more specialist pharmacist role. Our department has recently undergone a comprehensive Pharmacy Transformation Programme, featuring a full refurbishment and the integration of cutting-edge technologies including a Chemotherapy EPMA system, automated robotic and controlled drug dispensing, and e-Rostering. Main duties of the job

To be a bank specialist Haematology Pharmacist providing pharmacy support to haematology and oncology services under the direction of the Lead Pharmacist for Haematology.

To support the Aseptics Team by monitoring and checking chemotherapy.

To be an active member of the Haem -Oncology Pharmacy team and to help meet the overall strategic objectives of the team in the provision of pharmaceutical care for cancer and medical patients.

To monitor prescriptions for haematology and oncology medicines, and any associated therapies to help ensure they are prescribed in a safe, efficient and appropriate manner according to Trust, Regional and National guidelines, as well as ensuring compliance with the prescribing requirements of NHS England

To liaise with medical and nursing staff in the haematology department to act as the key link pharmacist between haematology and pharmacy.

To monitor and check chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition products to appropriate standards after completion of local training programme.

To assist in the on-going training of pharmacists to check chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition products as requested by the Principal Pharmacist Oncology, Haematology& Clinical Trials.

To assist in the provision of monthly chemotherapy statistics to cancer services and the clinical coding department to enable the chemotherapy tariff funding to the hospital through PBR and chemotherapy SACT data set information to be sent to the Chemotherapy Intelligence Unit (CIU.)

To assist in the ongoing running of the chemotherapy e-prescribing system (iQemo), including adding or reviewing chemotherapy protocols to iQemo if requested by the Lead Pharmacist Oncology &Haematology.

Deputise for the Lead Pharmacist Oncology & Haematology in their absence and be required to assist in the education and training of other staff in this specialist area.

To provide advice concerning the pharmaceutical care of cancer and general medical patients as appropriate, to patients, relatives and other health professional colleagues including senior consultant medical staff

To supervise, check and if necessary, carry out the dispensing and issue of medicines in accordance with the safe systems of work in operation and the established procedures, to ensure a high quality pharmaceutical service as required.

  • Registered Pharmacist (General Pharmaceutical Council)
  • Bachelor/Master of Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
  • Post-graduate Clinical Diploma
