An exciting and rare opportunity has become available at Bedford Hospital. We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled physiotherapist to step into the role of Team Lead Physiotherapist, providing leadership to a dedicated team within the specialist area of Acute Respiratory care.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong track record in service development and supporting therapy teams, alongside the ability to lead and inspire an established workforce. They will also bring advanced specialist knowledge in respiratory physiotherapy, with a clear commitment to delivering and embedding evidence-based practice.

Main duties of the job

Lead and manage a team of physiotherapists at Bedford Hospital, overseeing the planning, coordination, and delivery of high-quality physiotherapy interventions for patients within the Acute Respiratory specialty.

Undertake advanced clinical assessment and deliver treatment for patients with complex and/or long-term respiratory conditions, applying a high level of clinical expertise.

Work collaboratively to support and develop patient pathways, contributing to ongoing service improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and outcomes.

Play an active role in the development and implementation of policies and service changes across Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the wider multidisciplinary network, ensuring that team members adopt and embed these developments in practice.

Provide specialist and highly specialist guidance and advice to physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals across the Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Undertake comprehensive assessments of patients, including those with complex presentations, using advanced investigative and analytical skills. Formulate individualised management and treatment plans, applying clinical reasoning and a broad range of therapeutic approaches to deliver specialist programmes of care.

Provide specialist advice, teaching, and training to members of the multidisciplinary team on the physiotherapeutic management of patients within the specialty.

Support the development of less experienced staff through postgraduate training opportunities and facilitate clinical placements for student physiotherapists.

Offer specialist and highly specialist guidance to physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals across the Trust.

Maintain high standards of clinical care for all patients within the specialty, while supporting and guiding junior staff to achieve the same level of excellence.

Work in accordance with Trust policies and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) guidelines, maintaining a strong understanding of national and local standards, and monitoring both personal and team practice in collaboration with senior physiotherapists.

Take responsibility for managing patients with frailty, organising care effectively and efficiently in line with clinical priorities, even when faced with competing demands at short notice.

Essential criteria
  • • Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy
  • • HCPC registration

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Significant NHS experience in a senior position.
  • • Experience of working in relevant specialty.
  • • Significant experience of supporting and leading less experienced staff.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Advanced knowledge of physiotherapy in speciality area
  • • Knowledge of audit and outcome measures
Desirable criteria
  • • Knowledge of strategies to influence change management
