Job overview

This is an exciting time to join the imaging department at the recently merged Bedfordshire Hospital NHS trust. The merger of Bedford and Luton & Dunstable hospital has led to the expansion of services, creation of new services, development of cross site working and procurement of new equipment including a cross site PACS system ( Phillips/Carestream), new USS, CT and MRI scanners.

To support this we have expanded our consultant, middle grade and trainee numbers across the two sites.

 

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Consultant with broad experience in all aspects of breast imaging to work within our breast imaging team which includes consultant radiologists, breast clinicians, and consultant practitioners. Expertise in all aspect of symptomatic and breast screening work is essential to include mammography, tomosynthesis and MRI reporting, breast ultrasound, stereotactic and ultrasound guided core biopsies, vacuum assisted biopsies, localisation of impalpable breast lesions and MDT working.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·       Evaluation of women referred to the one stop clinics by General Practitioners and other medical practitioners.

·       Evaluation of women recalled following recall from the NHS Breast Screening Programme.

·       Requesting specialist imaging and performing breast interventional techniques under ultrasound and stereotactic guidance.

·       Performing pre-operative localisations.

·       Perform hot reporting for one stop clinics.

·       Reporting of follow up mammograms.

·       Provide appropriate advice and counselling to women attending one stop and screening assessment clinics.

·       Read a minimum of 5000 mammograms per year to comply with NHSBSP requirements.

·       Participation in consensus film reading and review of interval cancers.

·       Attend regular surgical and screening MDTs to include review of breast imaging and cross sectional imaging as well as discussion of biopsy results and management plans.

·       Report breast MRI

·       Participate in reading of PERFORMS test set on regular basis

·       Participate in development and maintenance of SOPs
