Are you a nurse with the commitment, drive and passion to deliver outstanding care within Cancer Services? 

 An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and clinically skilled senior nurse with a strong background in cancer to join our team of Breast Care Specialist Nurses. The post holder will provide expert clinical and supportive care for patients diagnosed with breast disease. They will work with the multi-disciplinary teams and the wider teams in supporting patients throughout their treatment pathway, providing individualised, compassionate and informed patient care.

You should possess excellent clinical and communication skills, with an established background in cancer or surgical nursing, be visible and accessible with quality and standards as your priority. You will need to be flexible and resilient in order to cope with the demands of the role.

Main duties of the job

·     Provision of specialist, high quality, expert nursing care and support for patients and their carers with a diagnosis of breast cancer.

·         Deliver evidence based individualised patient care according to patient’s changing health care needs, through holistic needs assessment, (HNA).

·         To work autonomously and seek collaborative relationships with others across and within professional boundaries.

·         To develop patient pathways and be responsible for developing the nursing service.

·         To provide expert knowledge and advice in own specialist area, ensuring maintenance of clinical excellence underpinned by evidence-based practice.

·         Work with the Multidisciplinary team and Cancer Management Team to ensure that the breast cancer service complies with the national standards for safety and quality, which are assessed through National Cancer Peer Review Process and actively contribute with work plans resulting from this Quality Surveillance assessment

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·         To perform an effective key role within the MDT to deliver cancer waiting times targets and pathways communication.

·         To act as a specialist resource for patients and the clinical team by providing comprehensive advice, information, teaching and training both within the Trust and externally.

·         Update own clinical and specialist knowledge. Contribute in audit processes. Undertake, where appropriate, nursing research with published outcomes.

·         Promote excellence in clinical practice, and the setting of quality standards within specialty.

·         Active involvement in the development of the service locally and nationally.

·         Clinical excellence.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • 1st Level Registered Nurse with valid registration • Educated to first level degree • Post Registration qualification in specialist area • Evidence of continuing professional development- masters level learning/ NMP/ IRMER or willing to work towards • Recognised teaching and assessing qualification Advanced Communication skills
Desirable criteria
  • • Non-Medical Prescribing • IRMER Training • Masters qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Relevant post registration experience at Band 6 or above in cancer, palliative care or the speciality • Experience of successful multi-agency working • Management of clinical Leadership experience • Experience of requesting imaging as a NMQR • Experience of teaching and assessing in the clinical area
Desirable criteria
  • previous band 7 experience

  • • In-depth Knowledge of professional issues and policy relating to the specialist area. • Demonstrate knowledge and application of Clinical Governance • Demonstrates knowledge of Clinical audit and research • Demonstrates knowledge of Risk Management • Demonstrate knowledge of understanding of Clinical Issues – assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care
