Job overview

 A new opportunity has arisen for a Senior Cardiology Nurse with substantial experience in managing acute cardiac patients to join the Cardiology CNS team.

The post holder will provide specialist nursing input into the development, delivery and evaluation of cardiac services within both the inpatient and outpatient setting in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team.

This will include the Rapid Access Chest Pain (RACP) Service for people with chest pain of suspected cardiac origin and the inpatient and outpatient management of patients with a primary presenting cardiac condition including participation in hot clinics and other hospital avoidance schemes.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work within locally agreed guidelines in partnership with other health care professionals across primary and secondary care. In addition the post holder will assist in the development and delivery of education and training for other healthcare professionals caring for patients with ischaemic heart disease.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Demonstrating highly specialised practice in the care and management of patients with chest pain of suspected or confirmed cardiac origin.
Providing education and information appropriate to the patient and family and carers needs in order to promote an understanding of their condition and concordance with treatment. To include the development of appropriate written information.


Assessment of individuals’ physical, psychological and social needs, requiring advanced clinical reasoning, investigative and analytical skills.


Planning, implementation and evaluation of specialised individual plans of care, recommending the best course of intervention. This necessitates high levels of autonomy and advocacy.


Demonstrating highly specialist knowledge, skills and innovative practice in the area of cardiology, underpinned by a sound evidence base.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
  • Education to Degree Level
  • - Evidence of continuing clinical and professional development including relevant post registration courses
  • Mentorship qualification
  • Non-medical Prescriber or working towards
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant teaching certificate/ qualification
  • Educated to Master’s Degree Level
  • Completion of a clinical leadership programme or equivalent
  • ALS provider
  • Independent/ supplementary prescribing

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post registration experience to include coronary care/cardiology.
  • Experience of working within a cardiac setting at a Band 6
  • Decision making involving complex facts/situations
  • Multidisciplinary working
  • Teaching– groups/individuals
  • Clinical audit
Desirable criteria
  • Development of protocols and guidelines
  • Research

Knowledge

  • Cardiac/cardiology nursing specialist knowledge of Acute Coronary Syndromes
