Job overview
The Cardiology department at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital is seeking to recruit a highly motivated Trainee Cardiac Physiologist to join a training and development plan to become an independent Cardiac Physiologist in Invasive Cardiology (Pacing and Cathlab).
We are a supportive, dynamic and friendly team, which is continuously expanding and developing the services that we offer.
The Invasive Cardiology Service offers a comprehensive range of cardiac procedures including Daytime Primary PCI, Elective PCI (with tools like Shockwave, IVUS, IFR, FFR), Bradycardia Pacemaker/ILR implantation and follow-up. Our department has significant experience in teaching and developing Cardiac Physiologists.
The successful candidate will be mentored and supervised during training and is expected to study towards competency in clinical practice. There will be gradual progress from a Trainee Cardiac Physiologist (Band 4) to Cardiac Physiologist (Band 5), Senior Cardiac Physiologist (Band 6) and Chief Cardiac Physiologist (Band 7) on completion of objectives.
The successful candidate will also need to be flexible to the changing needs of the department, as well as demonstrate a willingness to learn to further develop their knowledge and skills.
Main duties of the job
Interpret and report 24 hours ECG monitors under supervision.
Work under supervision in cardiac catheter laboratory, monitoring both ECG and intra-cardiac pressures.
Perform basic bradycardia pacing/ILR checks under supervision.
To continuously study, train and develop ECG, Pacing and Cathlab knowledge and skills.
To demonstrate discipline and commitment working towards achieving the training plan objectives.
To communicate effectively with the multi-disciplinary team, informing the relevant medical professionals when significant findings are diagnosed.
Obtain ILS certification and appropriately respond in the event of a health/clinical emergency e.g. cardiac arrest.
Study towards obtaining the SCST ECG Diploma.
Demonstrate continuing professional development.
Attend mandatory training courses.
To perform routine equipment checks, crash trolley checks and defib checks.

- Undergraduate Diploma or equivalent level experience in a relevant subject
- GCSE level including science, math or equivalent
