Job overview
In February 2016 the government published ‘Better Births’ A Five Year Forward View for maternity care. This described how maternity services needed to transform to deliver care that was safe, personalised and kind.
The Transformation Project Midwife will be responsible for supporting the development, co-ordination and delivery of change programme(s) which align to the overall aims of the National Maternity Transformation programme, as well as national and local maternity services requirements response such as CNST, Ockenden Report, NHS Long term Plan.
Main duties of the job
To work as an autonomous, competent practitioner
To have expert clinical skills and ensure appropriate assessment, implementation and evaluation of care is achieved. Act as a resource for other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Represent midwifery care in all multidisciplinary forums and represent the Better Birth’s lead in her absence.
To coordinate and manage the projects that arise within maternity services that will support and enhance the quality and safety of care we offer to women and their families.
Have some experience of managing change and/ or projects and be willing to further develop this expertise within the role.
To act as a change agent to facilitate the development and implementation of new models of care and practice by inspiring, negotiating & persuading colleagues to fulfil their potential.
Contribute to performance improvement taking a lead for identified areas.
Provide coordination of and participate in relevant working groups and provide project advice, expertise and support where requested
Develop required documents, reports, reviews and business cases to inform and drive transformation.
Collate and present required information and data to support deliverables and milestones.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will demonstrate leadership skills to support with, negotiation, change management and communication skills, to support the Better Births lead and maternity services in overcoming barriers to transformation and change. Will need to engage with service users and other stakeholders to ensure that activities to support in delivering the project plan (s) that are coproduced and responsive to the needs of women and their families. The post holder will work with key stakeholders to help develop and deliver a project plan to achieve the nationally agreed targets.
The post holder will support the Better Births lead in the co-ordination of the work of any sub-groups arising from the project, monitoring the progress of their work against relevant project plans, ensuring these are in line and on time to achieve the overall aims and objectives of the project.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Registered Midwife with the NMC Degree level qualification / diploma
- • Evidence of ongoing CPD Post registration management/leadership qualification or willingness to undertake same
- • Expert knowledge of midwifery and its applications
Desirable criteria
- • Project management qualification
- • Masters Level qualification or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Experience of managing change and/ or projects and be willing to further develop this expertise within the role
- • Extensive midwifery experience in all areas
Knowledge

- • Expert knowledge of midwifery and its applications
- • Knowledge of current issues in health service provision.
