Job overview

Our Orthopaedics, Trauma, vascular and Surgery team are looking for  friendly, enthusiastic and innovative physiotherapist to join our sociable and dynamic team.

If you are currently  a band 6 therapist and wanting to specialise in Orthopaedics, Trauma, vascular and Surgery or a band 5 looking to progress we would love to hear from you. As long as you have Orthopaedic, Trauma and/ or Surgery inpatient experience and a willingness to learn and adapt to change, we can support you in managing the band 6 role.

The Orthopaedic wards cover both trauma & elective orthopaedic and surgical wards. You will gain experience working on general surgery which includes a caseload of colorectal, head and neck, urology & breast. The therapy team has scope of working in Hospital at Home which is community service facilitating early discharge from hospital & continuing therapy input.  There is scope for successful candidate to be involved in the evolving vascular service at the trust. 

You will potentially be required to work with other qualified & non-qualified staff to provide a 7 day service including Bank holidays, with a commitment of 1 in 4 weekends with days off in lieu, you will also participate in the emergency respiratory on-call service. There is an extended service Monday to Friday on a  rota basis.

 

Main duties of the job

OBJECTIVES & PURPOSE OF THE POST


1. To perform advanced Physio  assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to determine a diagnosis and formulate and deliver an appropriate, effective individualised treatment programme. 
2. To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

3. To plan, supervise, educate and assess physiotherapy  students on placement within the orthopaedic therapy team. Work closely with the university and comply with all standards required for the degree level qualification.
4. To participate in the development and delivery of education and training for other health professionals caring for patients with orthopaedic conditions.
5. To undertake generic work in orthopaedics within the field of Physiotherapy, occupational therapy and dietetics to a competent standard, supported by clinical supervision from non-therapy senior staff.
6. To hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for patients with physiotherapy problems on the orthopaedics wards, Cobham Clinic and outlying patients, working without direct supervision. Access to advice and support from a more senior physiotherapist is available if required. Clinical work is evaluated through regular clinical supervision with a Band 7 clinician,but day-to-day clinical work is not routinely reviewed.
