Main duties of the job

To assist in the delivery of patient/client care and participate in the safe and effective management of theatre service under the supervision of registered nurses and ODPs.

 This could effectively be in all areas of the Department including the patient reception areas, scrub, anaesthetics and recovery.

 The Theatre Support Worker (TSW) will contribute in a variety of activities of theatre patient/client care to the level of experience and assessed competence that he/she has acquired. The service users come from a variety of cultural backgrounds and the TSW must be able to communicate effectively. They will support the Theatre team to maintain and ensure a clean, safe environment in theatres. This will include assisting in a range of domestic/environmental arrangements including some cleaning, keeping the corridors tidy and free of clutter, reporting maintenance problems and helping to monitor repairs.

Furthermore, they are expected to assist the domestics to maintain the upkeep of the kitchen, coffee room, changing rooms and patient reception area

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Sound Secondary School education
  • Care Certificate completion or willingness to work towards
  • L3 Health and Social Care Qualification or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Level 2 English and Maths
  • Completion of Healthcare Assistant Development Programme

Experience and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Operating Theatre experience or the equivalent in an acute health care setting (minimum 12 months
  • Demonstrable experience in dealing with patients who are ill and distressed
  • Experience of working within Multi Professional Teams (MDT) environment
  • Experience of working under pressure and dealing with competing demands
  • Experience of communicating with people from different backgrounds
  • Basic digital/IT skills
  • Evidence of proficiency for clinical skills expected of Health care Support workers
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of using digital/IT systems in a healthcare setting

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology
  • Knowledge of care and related procedures, clinical observations, limited clinical duties and relevant legislation
  • Knowledge of hospital policies/procedures and guidelines related to clinical role
