Job overview
The post holder will provide senior middle grade support for Urology with an interest in developing skills in HOLEP surgery within the elective theatre. The postholder will work with the existing Specialist Registrars and Junior Urology staff, that will participate on the Urology on-call 24 Hour rota together with the Urology consultant and allocated a full day of on-call duties.
Main duties of the job
As part of this role, you will undertake varied clinical activity within our busy urology department including clinics, procedures and elective theatres developing skills in HOLEP Surgery . In addition, successful appointees will take part in the General Urology on-call rota, support in MDTs and participate in dedicated teaching sessions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be employed as a whole time Urology HOLEP Fellow with the following commitments:
- Core and specialist urological surgical procedures performed on the applicants own operating lists for patients under the care of Consultant Urological Surgeons
- Outpatient clinics held on a weekly basis
- Day case surgery
- Diagnostic day case procedures including flexible cystoscopy
- Responsibility for carrying out and contributing to clinical audit activity and local governance initiatives.
- Contributing to the weekly MDT meetings
- Managerial responsibilities where appropriate
- Forming of a 1 in 7 on-call rota with prospective cover

Essential criteria
- • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- • FRCS or equivalent MRCS or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- • FRCS (Urol)

Essential criteria
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment. Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC

Essential criteria
- • Acute care safe: up-to-date ALS. Hospital at night team working / experience. Out of hours experience relevant to the job.
- • Relevant specialty clinical knowledge Clinical judgement:
- • Clinical training and experience in urology, including four years full-time postgraduate training and at least two of which should be in a specialty training programme
- • Ability to lead a team of junior doctors
- • Commitment to clinical governance improving quality of patient care

- • Resident within 10 miles or 30 minutes of hospital when on-call
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, which could be demonstrated by one of the following: • Applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English • Applicants have scores in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or equivalent equal to those required for recruitment to MMC specialty training programmes. If applicants believe that they have adequate communication skills but do not fit into one of the examples they need to provide evidence
- Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice)
