Job overview

We are looking to recruit dynamic speciality doctor to work in our established Urology department at Luton & Dunstable University Hospital, which is part of Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The appointment is a full-time  post. The role is to provide a shared responsibility for the provision of care to our patients, while implementing innovative working practices in creating a high-performing multidisciplinary team.

Weekly work commitments will be within the Working Time Regulations on working hours and will also be influenced by the Royal College of Surgery recommendations, the Consultant contract and will be specified in the Job Plan.

Main duties of the job

  Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of all urological patients

·       To share with colleagues in the urology department the management of urological patients requiring admission.

·       The appointee will have on call commitments, forming part of the ‘consultant on call’ rota

·       Teaching and training of intermediate grade and junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students.

·       To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

A 10 PA week consists of 8.5 PAs direct clinical care and 1.5 PAs for Supporting Professional Activity (SPA).

·       To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD).

·       Undertake regular elective clinics and elective theatre lists. Clinical sessions will be scheduled between the Luton & Dunstable University Hospital site and the Bedford Hospital site, as we work together to further develop the joint working strategy of the departments across the merged organisation.

  • • Full GMC Registration (GMC Licence to Practice is mandatory before employment commences)

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • • Relevant postgraduate qualification MRCP, MRCS etc
Desirable criteria
  • • MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research
  • Teaching Qualification in Medical Education (PG Cert.)

Requirements

Essential criteria
  • • Meets the GMC Generic Professional Capabilities (GPC’s) 1.1 to 6.5 that are in line with this post

Fitness to Practice

Essential criteria
  • • Practises with the professional values and behaviours expected of all doctors as set out in GMC Good Medical Practice and the Generic Professional Capabilities Framework

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Completed a minimum of 12 years medical work (either continuous period or on aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification
  • • Completed a minimum of 5 years within specialty
  • • Meets the criteria set out in the Generic Capabilities’ Framework for the Specialist grade
  • • Eligibility to work in the UK

Personal

Essential criteria
  • • Residence within 10 miles by road or up to thirty minutes travelling time of the hospital for purposes of on-call emergencies.
  • • Fit to undertake the role with satisfactory Occupational Health clearance
  • • Satisfactory DBS clearance
