This an an exciting opportunity that is open for an 18 Month Locum Consultant Urologist Posting with a specialist interest in PCNL.

Main duties of the job

The Post holder will be expected to provide elective services such as outpatient clinics and elective inpatient and day-case operations. The successful candidate will also  participate in a 1:7 on call rota.

The successful applicant will join a team of 7 WTE  consultant urological surgeons. The team are further supported by  7 Clinical Fellow/Registrar level doctors.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.

Multidisciplinary team working is key component of the working within the Trust and involves regular MDT discussions with colleagues

Providing evidence-based care for patients in a multidisciplinary setting.

Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care (with secretarial support)

Participation in clinical audit and in continuing medical education.

Conducting suitable duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

The post holder will participate in an out of hours consultant rota, detailed within the job plan section

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Medical Degree
Desirable criteria
  • • MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research
  • • FRCS (Urology) or equivalent

Registration

Essential criteria
  • • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Excellent all round experience of DGH work
  • • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Urology
  • • Able to take full and independent responsibility for clinical work and delivering service without direct supervision.
  • • Knowledge and Experience in one or more of the following subspecialties: o management of medical and surgical kidney stones, o Functional female urology
Desirable criteria
  • • Evidence of subspecialty training or fellowship

Clinical Effectiveness

Essential criteria
  • • Understanding of clinical governance and ability to demonstrate ongoing CPD
  • • Experience of guideline appraisal
  • • Participation in relevant local audits
  • • Ability to interpret and apply clinical research
Desirable criteria
  • • Participation in relevant national audits
  • • Recent published clinical research in peer reviewed journal
  • • Ability to supervise postgraduate research

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • • Knowledge and ability to teach all grades of trainees and medical students
Desirable criteria
  • • Has attended Teaching the Teachers or similar course
  • • Interest in teaching medical, nursing and other groups of staff

Personal skills

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to co-operate in a democratic team environment
  • • Flexible attitude, team player with good management skills
  • • Leadership Skills

Clinical Governance

Essential criteria
  • • Able to demonstrate a broad understanding of the principles and elements of clinical governance.

Personal circumstance

Essential criteria
  • • Residence within 10 miles by road or up to thirty minutes travelling time of the hospital for purposes of on-call emergencies.
  • • Fit to undertake the role with satisfactory Occupational Health clearance
  • • Satisfactory DBS clearance
