Southern Health and Social Care Trust is now recruiting for an Expert Biomedical Scientist Dissector to join their team.

Reports to: Lead Biomedical Scientist, Cellular Pathology
Accountable to: Head of Laboratory Service

Job Summary

In this role you will work as part of the dissection team to shape, maintain and deliver a safe, quality and efficient/timely tissue dissection service in accordance with organisational, professional and accreditation bodies’ standards.

You will independently dissect up to and including category D specimens and support the development of the dissection service by training team members.

You will also support the smooth operation of the histopathology lab service by ensuring the specimen dissection service is delivered efficiently and is expected to maintain competency in agreed areas of the histopathology laboratory and thus ensure an efficient service delivery as directed by the Cellular Pathology Lead.

Essential Criteria

•    At least 3 years’ experience in histopathology specimen dissection in categories B & C
•    HCPC registered and
•    IBMS specialist portfolio or equivalent and
•    Diploma in Expert Practice Histological Dissection and
•    Additional qualification: MSC (relevant to discipline), or FIBMS or IBMS Diploma in Expert Practice or the IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma
•    Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
•    Ability to work effectively within a team to achieve objectives
•    Ability to train and supervise other staff members.
•    Advanced knowledge, and interpretation of Histological Dissection and a histopathology service
