Job overview

This is a new post with exciting and extensive opportunities for service development to help create truly integrated and seamless care between hospital and community care, in particular for people suffering from infectious diseases, and to develop truly collaborative care between the acute medicine team, clinical microbiology department and community based hospital at home services.

Main duties of the job

This is a new 10 PA post for a Consultant Acute Physician with or without a specialty interest, at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will share clinical and managerial leadership within the acute medicine service with the present consultants. An office base with secretarial and administrative support will be provided.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Provide, alongside the current team, the acute medicine service at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, including in-patient and same day emergency care
  •  Provide clinical supervision to junior medical staff working within the department
  • Comply with the GMC requirements of the Duties of a Doctor at all times

 

Management Responsibilities:

  • Active participation in monthly clinical governance and consultant meetings
  • Active participation in departmental audit and quality improvement projects
  • Active participation in trainee teaching and development

Person specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full registration with the GMC/eligible for registration within 6 months of CCST in Acute Medicine, GIM, infectious diseases or microbiology at interview date
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree e.g. PhD/ MD submitted/awarded

Clinical Experience, knowledge & skills

Essential criteria
  • Fully trained in Acute Medicine, GIM, infectious diseases or microbiology
  • Previous responsibility for clinical governance and GMC Good Medical Practice
  • Experience in all aspects of general medicine and patient care
