Band 5 Audiologist

The Audiology team at the Royal Berkshire Hospital (RBH) are looking for an enthusiastic audiologist to join their friendly department. As a band 5 Audiologist you will be expected to have previous clinical experience of working independently in adult audiology clinics, although this may include university clinical placements.

You will be part of a team who are supportive and keen to share learning. Development into wider clinical areas is encouraged and supported. There is a proven track record of creating opportunity for wider training, support on recognised professional programmes and academic study.  

You will have a degree (or equivalent) in Audiology and have obtained, or be working towards, professional state registration.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Role

·       You will have experience in providing adult diagnostic hearing assessment and adult rehabilitation work.

·       You will have prior experience of independently providing ENT support and hearing aid repair and maintenance for service users.

·       Wider experience will be considered, for example, previous work in paediatrics

·       The service is based in Reading, and delivered across a number of Berkshire and South Oxfordshire locations. The clinician will be part of the team working across these sites to support the local community.

Additional Responsibilities

·       Motivation to develop and diversify your clinical skills in order to manage a complex caseloads and potentially support other clinics within the department (i.e. paediatrics, tinnitus).

·       There will be opportunities to push service quality and the technical knowledge forward.

·       The role will involve training and supervision of internal and external students.

·       You will have scope to be involved in audit, service evaluation and improve projects to help maintain IQIPS accreditation, which the service has held since 2014.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc Hons in Audiology or Equivalent
  • Practical competency qualification (e.g. CCC, PTP)
Desirable criteria
  • Registration, or evidence of working towards registration

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in adult audiology, including assessment, hearing aid fitting and aftercare (including accurate testing and verification of hearing aids through probe mic and / or coupler measurements
  • Ability to communicate complex information including relevant technical and / or condition related information to provide patients with a better understanding and allow them to make an informed choice about their health care
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of utilising some wider adult rehabilitation skills (e.g. some of the following: tinnitus management/speech testing/CROS fitting/BAHA fitting/non-routine hearing assessment clinics)

Other skills and competencies

Essential criteria
  • Competency in all areas of adult assessment and rehabilitation
  • Diagnostic audiometric techniques and rehabilitation to BSA/ BAA standards
  • IT literacy
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of development and implementation of clinical protocol and policy
  • Evidence of involvement in audit
