Band 3 Senior Healthcare Assistant (Dorrell Ward)

Applicants must be a current Band 2/Band 3 Healthcare Assistant in the trust, having completed the Care Certificate, and relevant experience.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join our accredited team on Dorrell Ward. 

We provide high quality nursing care in the specialties of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) and Ophthalmology.

Dorrell ward is comprised of 13 in-patient beds, an ENT Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU) and Eye Day Bed Unit offering up an interesting and varied workload.

We are looking for enthusiastic highly motivated individuals with excellent communication, leadership and team building skills to join our friendly and dynamic team in providing the best possible care for our patients.

Applicants must be a current Band 2/Band 3 Healthcare Assistant in the trust, having completed the Care Certificate, and have relevant experience and clinical skills such as ECG and venepuncture.

Informal visits to the unit are welcome so you can come and see us and discuss your needs and see the way that care is delivered.

Main duties of the job

The position of Senior Healthcare Assistant is to ensure that the service user’s needs are met and to assist the team in maintaining high standards of care delivery.

We are looking for candidates with a desire to provide compassionate support and care, good communication skills, a flexible approach and enthusiasm to work within the team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will provide high quality fundamental care to patients under the supervision a Registered Practitioner in a caring, compassionate and sensitive manner:

  • Acting always in the patient’s best interests.
  • Protecting and maintaining the patient’s privacy and dignity at all times.
  • Providing individualised care for a diverse group of patients respecting personal beliefs and preferences.
  • Alert the Registered Practitioner and/or Ward/ Department Manager to any change or concern relating to the welfare of the patient in a timely manner.

The post holder will be actively involved in providing supervision and guidance to junior / less-experienced staff.

Essential criteria
  • Experience as Healthcare Assistant within an acute hospital environment or equivalent setting.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working within relevant specialty.

Education/Qualifications

  • Successful completion of Trust’s Band 2 Developmental Passport or ability to demonstrate equivalent level of competence.
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ / QCF level 3 in Health or Health and Social Care.
