Job overview
This is a fixed-term post for a Specialty Training Registrar within the ENT service at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. The post is created from a vacancy in the normal specialty registrar allocations through the Health Education Thames Valley deanery, and the objective is for this to replicate the training and experience that would be expected with such.
Main duties of the job
The post requires general ENT skills and experience with the ability to provide middle-grade emergency cover out of hours, at a current frequency of 1 in 12 (subject to change). There is a requirement to be within 30 minutes of the hospital during these periods, to allow timely attendance in cases of emergency. There is a cross-cover arrangement with the ENT department at Wexham Park Hospital for out-of-hours care, worked on a week on/week off basis. On call commitments therefore include attending Wexham Park Hospital out of hours for unplanned emergency work, in addition to planned weekend ward rounds.
Working for our organisation
The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest District General Hospitals in the country. The hospital achieved Foundation Trust status on 1st June 2006. The job will mainly be based between the Royal Berkshire Hospital and Townlands Memorial Hospital; with potential satellite clinics in Bracknell & Newbury. Outpatient clinics are delivered across all sites, with the Royal Berkshire Hospital being the main hub for surgical and emergency activity.
