Band 6 Interventional Radiology Nurse

A different type of nursing……Interventional radiology is a form of image-guided surgery that’s developing rapidly and is an area of nursing that is challenging, different and immensely satisfying.

This is a brilliant opportunity to join a motivated and dynamic team, with huge potential to develop and progress.  The role provides a variety of exciting opportunities to gain experience and competencies to work across all imaging modalities, including Angiography, CT, Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound and Recovery.

Main duties of the job

You will need to be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and strive for opportunities for improvement.  You will positively affect  the experience of patients and carers by providing a high standard of clinical care; we are also looking for an organised individual with excellent communication skills and a positive approach to change.  Whether you have specific I.R. experience or not, full support and training will be provided.  The department provides an out of hours emergency on call service, which  all nurses are required to be part of an on-call rota.

The successful candidate will demonstrate high standards of practice with excellent communication, clinical and decision making skills and you will be fully supported to advance your knowledge and develop your clinical competencies in the following areas:

  • Surgical scrub technique, assisting with Interventional procedures,
  • Administering conscious sedation
  • Post procedure recovery care

Experience with the scrub technique such as theatres is beneficial but is not essential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Assesses the needs of patients/families and carers; plans, delivers and evaluates high standards of evidenced based nursing care. Demonstrates concise, accurate, timely record keeping, including both written and electronic records. Displays excellent analytical ability and sound decision making in changing clinical situations.

Practices in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s Code: Professional standards of practice and behaviour for nurses and midwives and Trust policies, protocols and guidelines. Is accountable for own practice and for appropriate delegation of care he/she gives to colleagues, nursing support workers and students.

Recognises deterioration in the physical or mental condition of the patient and takes timely action, appropriately referring to others or working with other agencies as required.

Recognises, responds to and appropriately manages emergency situations .
