Band 3 Medical Photography Assistant

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Medical Photography department. This post would suit someone passionate about photography with experience working within an office environment with a strong customer service focus.

The Medical Photography Department provides a comprehensive clinical and non-clinical photography, video, ophthalmic imaging, printing and design service to patients, staff, and departments across Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. The service supports patient care, clinical documentation, teaching, research, communication, and public relations.

The post holder will support the Medical Photographers in the delivery of high-quality clinical and non-clinical photography, reprographics, and administrative services. You will manage the in-house printing and design services, and staff portrait service. You will also act as the first point of contact for patients, visitors and enquiries, support non-clinical photography, and assist with uploading patient images to ensure the safe transfer, storage, and output of images across the Trust.

This role combines practical photographic, reprographic and design tasks with key administrative responsibilities to support the efficient running of the service.

Main duties of the job

Administrative and Front-of-House Support

  • Act as the first point of contact for the department, greeting visitors, patients, and staff professionally and courteously.
  • Answer the door, telephone, and departmental emails promptly, handling enquiries or directing them appropriately.
  • Manage the departmental shared emails, ensuring requests and messages are logged, tracked, and actioned efficiently.
  • Support the day-to-day running of the office, maintaining an organised, professional working environment.
  • Order and monitor stock, print materials, and consumables for photography and reprographics equipment.
  • Book appointments and maintain accurate administrative records.

Reprographics and Design

  • Manage in-house print production services to support clinical, educational, and promotional materials across the Trust.
  • Produce high-quality printed materials utilising applications including Adobe InDesign and Canva.
  • Operate and maintain large-format printers, copiers, binders and laminators.
  • Ensure all printed materials follow NHS branding and accessibility standards.

Photography

  • Deliver high quality non-clinical photography service - including staff portraits, PR and event photography, architectural, and equipment photography.
  • Management of the staff portrait service, including booking, capture, editing, upload and printing.
  • Assist medical photographers by uploading and archiving patient images to the Electronic Patient Record and FotoStation system.

  • Photography experience with example portfolio
