Main duties of the job

This is a part-time (5PA) post to enhance the care of patients with MS at the Royal Berkshire hospital. It involves provision of outpatient services for newly diagnosis patients, patients receiving disease-modifying therapies, and others requiring long-term supervision. In addition to offering clinics, the appointee will participate in local and regional MDT clinical and neuro-radiology meetings, and will supervise and support the MS nursing team. The appointee will be expected to develop systems for the provision and monitoring of patients on DMTs, and to optimize all MS-related patient pathways for safety and efficiency. The appointee will be expected to work closely with the regional MS service based in Oxford, to develop appropriate pathways for the most complex patients, and to prepare for the introduction of new therapies region-wide if and when they become available.

The role also includes dedicated time for participation in clinical research. The appointee will be expected to establish the local clinical infrastructure required for recruitment of patients into commercial clinical trials of MS therapies, with the expectation that Reading patients will be routinely given the opportunity to take part in research.
