Band 6 Experienced Occupational Therapist in Medicine

This static post provides an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking and highly valued therapy team within acute medicine.

The role involves providing specialist therapy for a wide range of patients and involvement in service development projects to provide continuous improvement within the area. 

The post will be operating across the following specialties: renal, respiratory, cardiology, oncology, gastro, rheumatology and endocrine, working with individuals with a variety of complex needs. 

The post holder will also be expected to take a role in supervising junior staff and students, contributing to in-service training and the weekend rota.

The role also requires a willingness to develop leadership skills, an excellent opportunity for a Band 5 or 6 looking to further their career.

Main duties of the job

  • To be an experienced occupational therapist working for Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust Hospital (RBFT).
  • To participate in the operational management and clinical leadership of occupational therapy in conjunction with the Team Lead and/or Professional Lead.
  • To use specialist occupational therapy knowledge and clinical reasoning skills to provide experienced support and advice to the occupational therapy team and to manage own caseload of patients with complex conditions as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To ensure a high quality, effective and efficient occupational therapy service in designated area.
  • To be a member of the Therapy Department contributing to planning and policy development in these departments.
  • To deputise for the Band 7 Team Lead as required.

Knowledge/Skills & Experience

Essential criteria
  • To have a degree or other recognised qualification in occupational therapy
  • Post graduate specialist experience as demonstrated by ongoing CPD , evidence-based project work, post graduate teaching
  • HCPC Registered
  • Understanding of a broad range of acute medical conditions
  • Post-graduate training in the management of conditions
  • Experience of teaching and presenting to other staff
  • Experience of supervising and developing other staff and students
Desirable criteria
  • BSc OT
  • Specialist knowledge in related area
  • Research or audit experience
  • Training and Presentation skills
