Due to an exciting investment in Neonatal Service's, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Neonatal Nurse to work as a band 7 Clinical Educator within the neonatal Unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, driven and experienced QIS Neonatal Nurse with a passion for education to join us in Neonatal Education and Development.

As the Clinical Educator on the neonatal ward, the post holder will lead the Neonatal Education Team in delivering, strengthening, teaching, and promoting education, learning and development in neonatal care.

You will:

Promote an organisational culture of patient safety, providing a visible presence that focuses on high quality care standards, preventing avoidable harm by analysing and interpreting trends, lessons learnt and best evidence to support the development of a positive safety culture.

Use a variety of clinical, interpersonal, project management and educational skills to support the delivery of improved patient care and outcomes.

Support effective patient safety and governance by disseminating good practice and promoting clinical audit and use of evidence based multi-professional standards.

Contribute to both formal and informal teaching commitments, including ward-based simulation and clinical teaching, working alongside staff.

Ensure that all staff have access to training and education which supports them to develop neonatal skills and competences.

Job responsibilities

  • Working clinically the post holder will support healthcare practitioners to develop appropriate clinical patient safety knowledge and skills, with achievement of competencies.
  • Ensure optimisation of resources for provision and development of clinical education
  • Act as a clinical expert, visionary, role model and deliver the education and learning for all staff, in a variety of settings, including the clinical area, working alongside the staff.
  • Use of a blended learning approach to ensure maximum benefit from learning opportunities
  • Utilise effective methods to assess, evaluate, and measure the impact of competence on clinical care and patient safety.
  • Collaborate with wider Trust and ODN Education Teams to optimise the opportunity for inter-professional and multi-disciplinary working.
  • Ensure that all clinical education is conceptualized and delivered around a centralised framework that maps across operational and workforce plans.
  • Support the development of a skilled clinical workforce, equipped with the necessary professional and clinical skills for the delivery of high-quality patient care, aligned to learning from incidents, RCAs, SIs, and Quality Improvement projects.
  • Provide guidance to ensure the appropriate clinical skills are embedded into education and learning and those comply with professional body requirements, AEI accreditation process (where applicable) and are evidence based.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop robust mechanisms for tackling poor practice based on the principles of effective patient safety and governance.
  • Liaise with the Neonatal Operational Delivery Network education team and contribute to Network education and practice development initiatives.
  • Support staff during the completion of education programmes.
  • Support individual staff development programmes / performance action plans.
  • Support the undergraduate student undertaking a neonatal clinical placement.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records of learning events both formal and informal.
  • Ensure compliance and implementation of Trust, local and national policies and procedures relating to resuscitation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues promoting good working relationships encouraging teamwork, motivation, innovation, and high standards of clinical practice.
  • Maintain clinical competence.
  • Act as a resource, providing information and advice in relation to neonatal education to multidisciplinary groups across all areas of the Trust.
