Band 5 Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician

The Royal Berkshire Pharmacy department is passionate about developing an excellent clinical pharmacy service and is looking for enthusiastic, innovative and self-motivated technicians to join our team.

Due to recent developments of our Clinical Pharmacy Services, we are recruiting a Band 5 Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for aspirational, enthusiastic, self-motivated and compassionate individuals to develop and advance their careers within clinical patient-facing roles.

Main duties of the job

You will be a Pharmacy Technician professionally registered with the General Pharmaceutical Counsel , organised, resourceful, have excellent time management skills and be able to demonstrate initiative to contribute to our rapidly growing team.

We welcome applications from community or candidates from other sectors of Pharmacy seeking new experiences or are keen to develop their skills in a different area of practice. We will provide full training and access to accredited courses that are approved against national frameworks.  

Existing Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technicians and Medicines Management trained candidates are also welcome to apply; possession of these post qualification courses is desirable.

The post holder will primarily be working at ward level providing a pharmacy service to include assessment of Patient’s Own Drugs (PODs), medicines reconciliation, supply and management of medicines and medicine counselling. A full and comprehensive training package will be provided.

The Pharmacy Department consists of approximately 120 members of staff and includes Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants and Admin staff from almost 40 different nationalities.

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy services or BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians & appropriate underpinning knowledge
  • Professional registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
Desirable criteria
  • Accredited in Final Accuracy Checking
  • Accredited in Medicines Optimisation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience or awareness of ward based Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician roles.
  • Experience of patient counselling
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of undertaking audit/project work
  • Experience as an educational supervisor
  • Post qualification experience as a professionally registered Pharmacy Technician
