Associate Chief Pharmacist

Are you an experienced, visionary pharmacist ready to make a real impact? We have a rare and exciting opportunity to join the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust as Associate Chief Pharmacist for Clinical Services and Quality.

Main duties of the job

In this pivotal role, you will:

  • Lead and shape the vision and strategy for clinical pharmacy, education & training, and pharmacy clinical informatics, aligned with Trust priorities and national policy.
  • Provide professional leadership to a dynamic team, driving continuous improvement, innovation, and optimal use of resources across the Trust and wider health system.
  • Steer business planning, service development, and financial stewardship, preparing business cases and securing resources to support growth and transformation across your portfolio.Be a key member of the senior pharmacy leadership team, deputising for the Chief Pharmacist when required and influencing the future of pharmacy services.

Person specification

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • MPharm (Master's degree) or equivalent Bachelor's degree (A)
  • Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (A)
  • Postgraduate Management qualification or equivalent experience with training courses attended (A)
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (A)
  • Other relevant postgraduate clinical or management qualifications (A)

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Comprehensive experience as a clinical pharmacist practitioner. This must include a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice (A/I)
  • Extensive experience in hospital pharmacy and managing specialist clinical staff (A/I)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of publishing own academic research (A/I)
  • Experience of conducting, supervising and presenting pharmacy practice research (A/I)

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Able to identify a vision, effectively communicate it to a diverse audience and provide direction for pharmacy services within their portfolio (A/I)
  • Excellent clinical and managerial critical appraisal skills enabling effective decision making relating to the adoption of new therapies (A/I)
Desirable criteria
  • Familiarity with clinical information systems (e.g. EPMA, electronic health records) (A/I)
