Band 8B Radiotherapy Services Manager

The Radiotherapy Services Manager holds principal responsibility for the strategic leadership, workforce planning, professional governance and future development of radiotherapy services across the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust (RBFT), influencing organisational cancer strategy to deliver sustainable service transformation.

The role works across departmental and organisational boundaries, engaging collaboratively with multiple stakeholders and plays a key role in supporting service development in line with Trust, regional and national cancer standards.

In collaboration with the Berkshire Cancer Centre (BCC) Senior Leadership Team the post holder will develop radiotherapy services in line with changes in technology, professional recommendations, the NHS England National Cancer Plan and the Trust’s strategy and priorities.

As a member of the BCC Senior Leadership Team, the RTSM will actively participate in meetings to plan the organisation, delivery and development of all aspects of the radiotherapy service to provide patient-centred, effective and coordinated care to cancer patients.

  • Hold standing as the most senior therapeutic radiographer within RBFT and provide strategic, professional and operational leadership for all radiotherapy services. Act as the Trust's principal expert advisor for radiotherapy, influencing organisational strategy, workforce planning, clinical governance, service transformation and regional cancer system developments.
  • Provide visible and inspirational professional leadership for the radiotherapy workforce, creating a high-performance culture that promotes innovation, continuous improvement, research, education and professional excellence. 
  • Be accountable for the operational management of radiotherapy services across both Royal Berkshire Hospital (RBH) and Bracknell Healthspace sites, ensuring that services are modern, standardised and developed to meet current and future demands.
  • Support the development of future strategic and operational plans for the service to ensure the continued provision of evidence-based, high quality radiotherapy treatment, supported by a skilled and appropriately developed workforce.
  • Direct, manage and have overall responsibility for the introduction of new treatment and planning techniques and service developments based on best available evidence and national guidance.
  • Hold lead accountability for education, training, research and quality management within the department.

  • BSc (Hons) degree in Therapeutic Radiotherapy or Diploma of the College of Radiographers
  • Masters degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant clinical, healthcare leadership or management subject
  • Relevant leadership or management qualification
  • HCPC registration as a Therapeutic Radiographer

  • Post graduate teaching qualification
  • Change management / project management qualification

Experience

  • Extensive and wide range of experience in radiotherapy, including management of services
  • Significant experience of managing a diverse, multi-professional clinical workforce at a senior level
  • Evidence of leading large-scale service transformation and organisational change
  • Experience of influencing strategy at organisational, regional or national level
  • Significant experience of managing senior clinical teams and complex workforce issues
