Band 2 Receptionist (Day Surgery Unit - WBCH Thatcham)
PLEASE NOTE: This post is based at West Berkshire Community Hospital, London Road, Benham Hill, Thatcham, RG18 3AS.
The receptionist is responsible for performing complex administrative functions and also responsible for receiving patients and visitors attending the day surgery unit, taking ownership of escalated administrative issues where appropriate.
The receptionist works in close partnership with medical, nursing and secretarial staff to ensure the smooth running of the day surgery unit.

Main duties of the job
- To act as a receptionist to the unit; promote a businesslike, but friendly and supportive role to all visitor and patients attending the unit.
- To receive phone calls to the unit; take initial action; to liaise with other staff within the Department and Trust as appropriate.
- To check patients in and out of the department using the EPR.
- Responsible for keeping the work environment safe and organised.
- Calling patients the day before surgery to confirm attendance.
- To assist with the administrative running of the department, photocopying, filing and other general clerical tasks as required.
- To assist in support and training of new staff where appropriate.
- To use own initiative when requested by line manager in the management of work processes.
- Be responsible for the management of own workload.
These tasks should not be viewed as an inflexible specification. As priorities change, new duties and areas of responsibilty may be included appropriate to the postholder's grade.
