Band 2 Receptionist (CAT 2A Ophthalmology - Prince Charles Eye Unit, Windsor)
PLEASE NOTE: This post is based at Prince Charles Eye Unit, King Edward VII Hospital, St Leonards Road, Windsor, SL4 3DP - and attracts a Fringe payment of 5% of gross basic salary.
The Prince Charles Eye Unit (part of the Royal Berkshire Hospital), Clinical Admin Team for Ophthalmology is seeking a passionate, enthusiastic, reliable and hardworking individual to join our Reception team.
Duties include welcoming patients in to the department, preparing patient files for clinic appointments, being the first point of call for patients attending Eye Casualty/Eye Clinic and Ward, arranging follow-up appointments for patients before they leave the department.
Cross-Site working may be required.
Main duties of the job
The ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills and be willing to multi-task under challenging conditions.
The Ophthalmology team is committed to providing our colleagues with a positive experience assisting them to build fulfilling and rewarding careers.
Ophthalmology is a 7 day a week service, with clinics being held every day. The successful candidate will be required to work a shift pattern over 7 days, to ensure that appropriate cover is provided at all times.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You should have the ability to perform complex administrative functions and will be responsible for receiving patients and visitors attending outpatient clinics taking ownership of escalated administrative issues where appropriate.
The receptionist works in close partnership with medical, nursing and secretarial staff to ensure the smooth running of the outpatients department.

Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE (or equivalent) or above in English Language and Maths.
- Knowledge of Microsoft packages.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Reception experience within a customer service setting.
- Call centre experience.
- Experience within an NHS administrative environment.
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
