Job overview

A rare and exciting opportunity has arise in the Dudley Community  Dietetic Team, for a Clinical Lead Dietitian for Paediatrics in the community in a development band 6 to 7 role.

The Community Dietetic Team is a small, friendly, specialist team of Dietitians  based at Stourbridge Health and Social Care Centre. The team is part of the Dudley Rehabilitation Service.  There are many training courses available, to develop your clinical and  leaderships skills. 

The successful candidate will work as an advanced specialist Dietitian managing a caseload complex home enterally tube fed patients as well as patients with a variety of conditions and dietetic needs. 

The post holder will also provide leadership, training, supervision and appraisal for junior staff. Working along side the other Clinical Lead Dietitians in the community you conduct audits and patient feedback initiatives to help develop the service.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities include:

  • To work autonomously as a specialist Community Dietitian for paediatrics
  • To undertake and complete comprehensive holistic assessments of patients with a variety of conditions and dietetic needs
  • To work closely with other members of the specialist MDTs to provide an integrated service to paediatrics within the community.
  • To monitor, evaluate and modify interventions using appropriate outcome measures to ensure effective intervention.
  • To lead on service developments and ways of working for the team.
  • To supervise, educate and assess the performance of Dietetic students
  • Responsible for the nutritional care given to community patients, in a variety of settings including their own homes, care homes and community clinics.
  • To educate and counsel patients, carers and groups about the importance of nutrition
  • To calculate and monitor artificial enteral feeding regimens and monitor people who are receiving home enteral feeds, in care homes and their own homes, changing these feeds as needed and liaising with the home enteral feeding supplier
  • To monitor and assess gastrostomy sites reporting problems to relevant nursing staff and arranging training as appropriate.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • BSc or post graduate Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • HCPC Registration
  • Masters level qualification or modules/ sufficient comparable experience of advance dietetic practice or prepared to undertake this
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of British Dietetic Association
  • Member of Special Interest Group relevant to this post

Knowledge and Training

Essential criteria
  • Accurate anthropometric measurements skills
  • Specialist knowledge of nutritional support for paediatrics
  • Advanced practice-based competencies related to artificial enteral tube feeding
  • Excellent knowledge of legislation, clinical guidelines and governance and the ability to develop and organise the dietetic service in accordance with these
Desirable criteria
  • PENG course or other relevant post registration training
  • Leadership course or qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post-graduate experience in a range of clinical areas both group and individual interventions for paediatrics
  • Good Knowledge and experience in managing patients with faltering growth and with nutrition related conditions such as coeliac disease, selective eating.
  • Comprehensive experience of multi disciplinary working and able to work as part of a team effectively
  • Documented evidence of CPD
  • Experience of delivering education sessions to other dietitians, patients or healthcare professionals; to be able to engage others to learn
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of supervising, facilitating and mentoring student dietitians and more junior staff
  • Experience of working in the community

Communication & Relationship Skills

  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the MDT and encourage good communication between all those involved in a patient’s care
  • Able to motivate self and others to deliver a quality service
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Networking skills with other healthcare professionals at a regional and national level

Analytical & Judgement Skills

Essential criteria
  • Advance analytical and clinical skills to assess dietetic patients and to formulate and review evidence-based care plans
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of data collection, audit or clinical research

Planning & Organisational Skills

Essential criteria
  • Effective organisational skill and ability to delegate tasks to others
  • Ability to manage large, busy and complex caseload across multiple sites and experience of service delivery in a variety of different settings including the community
  • Ability to manage a team of community Dietitians, support workers, and administration staff.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of service/ project development and ability to drive Trust- wide improvements in patient care

Physical Skills

Essential criteria
  • Experience of using patient information computer systems. To be fully IT literate, including accurate keyboard, word processing and data inputting skills
  • Able to commute to patients homes and clinics as needed
