An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 8a Neurorehabilitation Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist. The post holder will be an independent botulinum toxin injector for spasticity.

The post holder will be based at West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre, which includes Specialist Clinics, Prosthetics, Orthotics, Access to Communications Technology, Birmingham Wheelchair Services and Posture & Mobility.

This post is within Specialist Clinics - this is a group of 7 highly specialist regional outpatient services - Spasticity Clinic, Multiple Sclerosis Clinic, Neuromuscular Clinic, Non-Traumatic Spinal Injury Clinic, Young Adults Clinic, Complex Neuro Rehab and Intrathecal Baclofen. You will work as a multidisciplinary team of Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Nurses, Speech & Language Therapists, Counsellor and Psychologist.

Main duties of the job

As a Physiotherapist who is a Botulinum Toxin Injector for Spasticity, the post holder will work across all 7 services within Specialist Clinics but will predominantly work within Spasticity Clinic.

The purpose of the role is to provide robust clinical and professional leadership ensuring that the clinical strategic aims and objectives for the Service are delivered and achieved. 

The post holder will assess, treat, and manage patients as appropriate and in keeping with their clinical expertise and they will work with all services to provide dedicated support to patients.

The post holder will provide clinical expertise and leadership to the  Specialist Clinics service within Birmingham Community Healthcare (BCHC) NHS Foundation Trust.

You must be a specialist physiotherapist in neurorehabilitation, specialising in spasticity and qualified as an injector of botulinum toxin for spasticity.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registered Physiotherapist
  • Qualified as an AHP Botulinum Toxin injector for Spasticity
  • Evidence of recent continuing professional development
  • Leadership course
Desirable criteria
  • Qualified as an AHP prescriber or willing to work towards a prescriber qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive relevant up to date clinical experience, including extensive botulinum toxin injecting experience for spasticity
  • Evidence of collaborative working within a multi-professional environment
  • Experience in advanced Health Assessment of patients related to neurological rehabilitation and spasticity
  • Evidence of supporting others in a clinical environment
  • Evidence of prior line management experience
  • Evidence of leading in a clinical audit, monitoring standards of care and participating in research
  • Evidence of leading service development
  • Experience of mentoring colleagues and students
  • Evidence of up-to-date based knowledge & skills, particularly in long-term conditions
