Band 7 Senior Nurse for Palliative Care

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated nurse who is passionate about palliative and end of life care to join the Children’s Specialist Palliative Care Team. Alongside the Clinical Lead you will play an active part in clinical practice, education, research/audit and the implementation of national guidelines. The successful applicant will work as part of a well-established dynamic team who provide specialist advice and support to children, young people and their families and all members of the health care teams involved in the child/young person’s care. 
 
The team consists of a specialist palliative care consultant, senior palliative care nurses, senior family support worker and nurse associates. We work very closely with the Children’s Community Nursing and Rapid Response Teams and the acute settings to ensure a high standard of care is offered to children/young people and their families throughout their palliative care journey. 
 
The team support children and young people and their families with all aspects of palliative, end of life care and bereavement support. The team offer a 24/7 service which enables timely symptom management and offers family choice around care for place of death. 
 
It is desirable that you will hold the Independent Non Medical Prescribing qualification and have a good understanding of symptom control. Advanced communication is essential to this role. 
 
Full time/part time/flexible hours of working will be considered at interview.

Working as part of an integrated multidisciplinary team, the post holder will facilitate optimum quality of life for children and their families with life limiting / life threatening conditions.  This will be achieved in collaboration with children and their families through provision of specialist palliative care nursing interventions based on comprehensive holistic assessment, agreement of goal focused care planning and education and support to both children and their families.

Qualifications / Training

  • First Level Registered Nurse
  • Degree in children’s nursing / children’s palliative care or equivalent
  • Evidence of continued education.
  • Independent supplementary prescriber or equivalent.

Experience

  • Demonstrable relevant experience in Paediatric Palliative care
  • Significant experience of symptom management relating specifically to end of life.
  • Significant experience of productive multi and interdisciplinary working
  • Experience in clinical (informal) and formal teaching

Skills/Knowledge

  • Clinical skills underpinned by advanced knowledge of palliative care and current issues
  • Ability to manage own caseload
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
