We are looking for an experienced individual, passionate about volunteering who will be responsible for the recruitment and management of the individual volunteers within BCHC Charity; working closely with the Charity Team and Patient Experience Team to embed the Volunteer’s Strategy within Charity initiatives and the wider organisation to have maximum impact on patients, carers and staff who support them.
The individual volunteering offer is being developed alongside the existing corporate volunteer offer and this individual will work closely with the existing volunteer co-ordinator and project manager to strengthen the volunteer offer further across BCHC and the communities we serve.
Main duties of the job
- To support and embed the Volunteer Strategy within BCHC Charity and the wider organisation
- Will be responsible for the management of the charity volunteer programme leading on recruitment, induction, placement, support and retention for volunteers
- Support and contribute to the development and implementation of relevant policies associated with volunteer programmes
- Manage the recruitment process for volunteers, including interviews, completion of documentation, security checks, induction and placement

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Identify opportunities for volunteer placements across BCHC Charity and the wider organisation and maintain associated spreadsheets
- Motivation of interested parties in the range of opportunities available for volunteers across the organisation
- Communicate with staff in all Divisions to persuade and motivate them to consider the benefits of volunteers
- Liaise and negotiate with external agencies in order to identify potential volunteers
- Be an active member of regional volunteering networks
- To maintain an up to date and accurate spreadsheet of volunteers working in the organisation
- Supervise and accompany volunteers to events relevant to projects where needed
- Liaise with staff across the Trust to identify potential volunteers from within services
- Support volunteers through regular communication with individuals and provide regular updates and refresher training as required
- Undertake annual individual reviews with volunteers and undertake ongoing monitoring performance of volunteers through feedback from the named person in the service area
- Undertake exit interviews
- Provide support and development opportunities as required by individual volunteers
- Plan and arrange an annual celebration event for volunteers, linking directly with the Communications Team about awards and presentations
- Assessment and placement of volunteers, dealing with conduct/ performance/ grievance issues, dealing with complaints
- Research and assess new schemes/ volunteer opportunities, determine funding requirements and develop bids alongside the Charity Team
- Write reports about the volunteer programme with analysis of performance, gaps in provision and proposals for future development
- Create posters, leaflets, newsletters in line with Trust policy and Charity Branding Guidelines
- Undertake satisfaction surveys to understand the impact of volunteers on services, patients and colleagues across the Trust

- Relevant experience of managing volunteers
- Relevant experience of monitoring, evaluating and producing reports
Desirable criteria
- Relevant experience managing charity volunteers and or volunteers within an NHS structure
Knowledge

- Knowledge of health and wellbeing issues and services, acquired through training and experience
- Knowledge of best practice in volunteer management
- Knowledge of the law surrounding use of volunteers
- Understanding of Equality and Diversity
- Well-developed analytical and problem solving and ability to assess issues, anticipate and address problems and provide workable solutions
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
