Job overview
Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHC) is at the forefront of reimagining care for older adults through innovation, integration, and collaboration. As a Consultant Geriatrician with us, you will join a dynamic team committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care within a Trust that is gaining national recognition — including coverage by the BBC — for its pioneering approaches to community and intermediate care. We will work with any potential and successful candidates to ensure that any final job plan satisfies individual personal development needs and organisational goals
Main duties of the job
Our service model is built on locality-based working, enabling tailored healthcare delivery aligned with the unique needs of our diverse populations. BCHC is proud to support multi-disciplinary frailty pathways across neighbourhoods, blending inpatient, community, and virtual care models. Our teams work closely with local GPs, social care, mental health services, and acute providers to ensure seamless and holistic care.
We are at the beginning of an exciting journey to further embed population health approaches within our localities. We are actively seeking committed clinical leaders who want to shape this work — applying public health principles, addressing inequalities, and improving outcomes through proactive, place-based intervention.
Working for our organisation
Moseley Hall Hospital is a cornerstone of our inpatient geriatric services and offers a welcoming, supportive environment that combines clinical excellence with a strong sense of community. The hospital has a long-standing reputation for delivering high-quality sub-acute care and rehabilitation, supported by experienced nursing and allied health teams. It provides a calm, green campus setting in south Birmingham, with excellent facilities and strong links to community services and other BCHC sites.
A Strong Teaching and Learning Culture
BCHC is an enthusiastic teaching organisation. We host undergraduate medical students from Aston University, and our inpatient wards are supported by Resident Doctors, including GP Specialty Trainees (GPSTs) and Locally Employed Doctors (LEAs). As a consultant, you will have opportunities to provide clinical supervision, shape the educational environment, and contribute to medical education development.
Leadership and Career Development
This is a unique opportunity to combine inpatient and community geriatric practice within a Trust that values leadership, flexibility, and clinical autonomy. Our consultants lead multidisciplinary teams, influence service design, and collaborate across boundaries with system partners. You will be supported to develop your own areas of interest — whether in frailty strategy, virtual wards, intermediate care, end-of-life services, or education.
