The Divisional Director is responsible for the overall strategic development and day-to-day running of the Division. This involves working in partnership with the Divisional Medical Director and Divisional Director of Nursing and Therapies, to ensure the effective provision of high quality, safe services across Birmingham and the wider region, against agreed outcome measures, service level agreements, activity and financial targets.

The Divisional Director will work closely with the Executive Team to set a long-term strategic vision and provide caring, inclusive and compassionate leadership making the Division a “Great Place to Work”. The post holder will also need to engage, support and develop high performing teams; establishing effective structures and processes and a culture of delivery and collective working and have line management responsibility across multiple departments and hold budgetary responsibility for the departments and overall for the Division.

Main duties of the job

•              To lead the Adult Community Services Division in partnership with the Divisional Medical Director and Divisional Director of Nursing and Therapies (who report to this post), to ensure the effective provision of high quality, safe services across Birmingham and the wider region, against agreed outcome measures, service level agreements, activity and financial targets.

•              To ensure that the Division is fit for purpose and has long-term strategic vision and plans which meet the needs of key external stakeholders and organisational priorities, contributing to the success of the Trust and reducing organisational risk.

•              To provide strong visible, inclusive and compassionate leadership across the Division, ensuring delivery of high quality, safe and effective services, against agreed outcome measures, service level agreements, activity and finance targets.

•              Champion the leadership and development of the workforce to enable them to achieve their full potential and to ensure the right organisational arrangements are in place for the delivery of high performing, quality-orientated clinical services that deliver exceptional outcomes and productivity within the resources available.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial senior management/leadership experience in the NHS, in variety of settings including Acute Sector
  • Extensive experience of delivering high quality services within a complex financial setting
  • Evidence of successful management of staff from a wide range of professionals across a spectrum of services and specialties
  • Evidence of negotiating highly complex activity or other forms of contracts with commissioners and/or other external senior colleague
  • Evidence of achievement of sensitive or contentious organisational change and development in the face of resistance and antagonism.
  • Ability to manage conflict and competing demands from a number of service areas in a high pressure environment
  • Evidence of experience of partnership working with a range of agencies and stakeholder organisations

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Masters Degree or equivalent operational experience
  • Formal management qualifications or equivalent operational experience
  • Evidence of continuous personal and professional development

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of a breadth of community provider services
  • Ability to lead a highly complex, diverse Division and set a clear direction/vision and inspire others through effective leadership skills
  • Ability to interpret, analyse and summarise highly complex written information and numerical data to produce concise written reports and summaries
