An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time (37.5 hours) Fixed Term Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our Intensive Support Team within our Community Adult Learning Disability Service. The Adult Learning Disability Service is a provider of care for adults with learning disabilities aged 19 and over across Birmingham. We are dedicated to providing high-quality services that are close to where people live and are person centred to enable people with a learning disability to live their best lives. The Intensive Support Team work with individuals who are at risk of their placements breaking down or at risk of hospital admission. 

This post would suit an applicant with a passion for working with adults who present with learning disabilities who may have additional needs such as autism, behaviours of concern, mental health concerns, physical health needs, sensory needs and communication difficulties. Applicants should be able to rise to the challenge of working within a variety of dynamic environments. As a member of a small multidisciplinary team, you will work alongside colleagues from Speech and Language Therapy, Psychology, Nursing and Psychiatry. 

Main duties of the job

Working alongside the multidisciplinary team, the successful applicant will manage a varied caseload to support individuals to engage in meaningful activities. This will take into consideration their routine and structure, level of skills and function, sensory needs and the potential impact of the physical and social environment to support activity engagement and opportunities. The role will be varied including assessment, care planning, implementing evidence-based interventions, reviewing and evaluating therapy. The role will also include providing advice to other professionals, family members and support workers, attending and contributing to clinical team meetings, MDT training sessions for staff teams, supporting service development projects and report writing. 

The role includes providing support and supervision for junior staff which includes an Occupational therapy apprentice and AHP Therapy Assistants. There will also be opportunities to support OT students and other students within the team. Clinical support and supervision will be available from the Advanced Occupational Therapist. The post holder will also receive managerial supervision and support from within the multidisciplinary team.
