These are newly created posts due to development within our growing team.
Main duties of the job
To maintain, develop and promote excellence in clinical practice across the Community referral team, SEND team and BCHC Plus Traded team, within the Children’s OT service, with reference to current research and evidence-based practice, contributing to safe effective practice in the specialist clinical area.
To provide Occupational Therapy intervention at a specialist, targeted and universal level, functioning as an integral member of multi-professional team to support in the holistic assessment, diagnosis and intervention of children and young people according to agreed pathways.
To contribute towards ensuring children and young people with additional needs gain access to a broad, balanced and relevant education, whilst also having their exceptional needs met in an inclusive way.
Provide a source of clinical expertise/advice and guidance for families, carers, educational settings and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
To maintain, develop and promote excellence in clinical practice, with reference to current research and evidence-based practice, contributing to safe effective practice, alongside the service clinical leads.
To develop and maintain effective working relationships with parents / carers and other stakeholders, using negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills

- Carrying out Occupational Therapy at a universal, targeted and specialist level. This includes assessments, developing and implementing a range of programmes of care and treatment, to meet the needs of the clients, schools, families and their environments, in accordance with agreed pathways and in line with the tired model of service delivery.
- Work as part of multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams, including educational colleagues, providing Occupational Therapy intervention/support for children and young people.
- To provide care plans to meet goals and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions using appropriate outcome measures and make any necessary modifications
- Use specialist knowledge to inform clinical judgments and decision making. Undertaking differential diagnosis of cases and contribute to overall decision-making for complex clients with a range of disorders as part of a team approach
- Enable and empower staff, parents/caregivers to identify children’s needs and provide strategies to help at the earliest opportunity.
- Provide training and bespoke clinical support to children and young people, early years/ school staff and parents/caregivers.

Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- Degree level qualification in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Licence to practice
- Full Membership of Professional body RCOT
- Evidence of recent relevant CPD activities in specialist area
Skills/knowledge
Essential criteria
- Competent in using evidence base to inform clinical decisions and best practice
- Knowledge of the national and political agenda influencing health services
- Knowledge of the needs of a diverse social and ethnic population and the impact on all aspects of service provision
Personal qualities
Essential criteria
- Ability to prioritise own workload and has insight into own coping strategies
- Ability to reflect on clinical practice and initiate appropriate changes
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels within the boundaries of the role and clinical competence
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post reg experience as a paediatric OT
- Relevant OT experience of diagnostic assessment and intervention with children
- Relevant experience of working with children within an educational setting, Multi Professional Team
- Relevant experience of managing safeguarding concerns and an understanding of local processes
- Relevant experience of delivering successful effective training to other professionals
- Significant experience of providing support and supervision to colleagues and other professionals
Other
Essential criteria
- Has a full, valid UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle to use for work
