We are delighted to be able to offer a  Band 3 Physiotherapy Assistant post within our Children’s Community Physiotherapy service . The post will be  based at Calthorpe Special School.

The post is part time but term time only  hours maybe considered. The successful applicants will have previous experience of being a therapy assistant or with working with children in health or educational settings.

Candidates should be passionate about supporting children with learning and physical needs to reach their therapy goals. 

It is a community post, working with a caseload of children and young people from across Birmingham with neurological and developmental conditions. It will involve working within the community environment, largely within special school, working under the guidance of  registered Physiotherapists. 

 

Main duties of the job

To assist the BCHC Paediatric Physiotherapy Team in providing a physiotherapy service to children in Calthorpe Special School and may include community visits eg visits to homes, nurseries and other special schools.

The post holder may work independently without direct supervision at times. However they will be in regular liaison with designated physiotherapists, who will assess all children and delegate to the post-holder accordingly.

The post holder will also be required to undertake regular clerical duties as requested, to help support the needs of the child/young person, using email, Microsoft, intranet systems and databases as appropriate.

 

Working for our organisation

The Children’s Physiotherapy Department, works as part of Inclusion Services within the Children and Families Division of Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. We work across the whole city, in a range of community settings, thus requiring successful applicants to demonstrate a high level of flexibility.

Access to reliable transport or means of travel is essential. The applicant will ideally hold a full driving licence. The post-holder may be required to transport items of therapy equipment at times.

 

 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Carry out specific designated treatment programmes and related tasks as agreed with the physiotherapist who has assessed the child, making adjustments within agreed parameters.
  • Carry out group activities, with or without the physiotherapist present, working to agreed physiotherapy objectives.
  • To teach and advise children, families and other carers on routine use of specialist equipment and how to make adjustments as appropriate.
  • To carry out appropriate joint visits with other members of the multidisciplinary team e.g. Early Years Support Services, Physical Disabilities Support Services, liaising with the named physiotherapist as appropriate.
  • Support orthotic/wheelchair/consultant clinic, including the administration associated with the organising of the clinic, liaising with other agencies/professionals as appropriate, with support from a physiotherapist as required.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NNEB, NVQ Level 3/BTEC (equivalent or higher) in a health education or social care or Physiotherapy Access course per person spec

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant prior experience as an Allied Health Professional support worker or relevant work experience (working with children in a community/educational/ health setting)
  • Work experience of applying basic care skills in a community/clinical/ educational setting.
  • evidence of clerical support
  • evidence of working as part of team
  • Experience of working with a child/children with a disability
  • Experience of working independently
  • Able to demonstrate good communicate skills
  • Ability to use basic word processing and windows based computer packages.
