Job overview
Applications are invited from dentists on the specialist list in Special Care Dentistry to join our clinical team providing services across the Birmingham and Black Country area on a fixed term of 12 months to cover Maternity Leave.
As well as providing specialist care for adults with disability, medical or mental health problems, this post will involve appropriate lead roles delegated by the Head of Service to enable development of a portfolio of post specialist training leadership and management competencies.
Main duties of the job
You will need substantial experience at specialist level in Special Care Dentistry including provision of IV sedation and treatment under general anaesthesia; also experience in oral surgery attained through a hospital based oral surgery post of at least 6 months. You will need excellent presentation skills, and experience in service leadership and project management skills.
You must have full GDC registration and be on the Specialist list in SCD (or within 6 months of expected CCST); you must also have a registrable postgraduate qualification in SCD eg. DSCD, MSCD, MSc and have entered or be eligible to be entered onto the local NHS performers list.
You will also need to be flexible and able to work at different sites across the Birmingham and Black Country area.

Qualifications/Training
Essential criteria
- BDS or equivalent
- Vocational training or equivalent if non UK graduate
- Eligibility for inclusion on NHS Dental Performer List
- On the GDC Specialist list in SCD or within 3 months of expected CCST
- Possession of a registrable postgraduate qualification in SCD eg. DSCD, MSCD, MSc
- Evidence of relevant CPD being undertaken regularly
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience in treatment of adults with specialist SCD needs
- Experience in providing care in a secure unit environment
- Experience in providing treatment to adults under IV and inhalation sedation
- Experience in providing treatment to adults under GA
- Evidence of oral surgery experience attained through a hospital based post of at least 6 months
- Evidence of leadership, service development and project management
- Experience of teaching and training undergraduates
- Experience of presenting to groups
Desirable criteria
- Experience of chairing meetings
- Experience of working in a secondary and tertiary care setting
- Experience of providing postgraduate teaching
