Manages a complex and diverse caseload of communication and dysphagia independently within the Learning Disabilities Service.
· Provides clinical advice and support to less experienced Speech and Language Therapists.
Supervises the work of Speech and Language Therapists, Speech & Language Therapy Assistants, students and volunteers.
· Contributes to local service audit and research.

Qualifications / training
Essential criteria
- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
- HCPC license to practice
- Registered with Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
- Dysphagia Post Graduate Qualification
Desirable criteria
- Masters post-graduate qualification relevant to SLT
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience as a qualified therapist with significant relevant experience in specialist area.
Skills/knowledge
Essential criteria
- Competent to use evidence base to inform clinical practice in a specialist area.
- Knowledge of the needs of a diverse population and the impact on communication and swallowing problems.
- Competent to develop specialist programmes of care.
- Competent in developing empathy, negotiation and influencing skills with emerging clinical leadership.
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and overcomes barriers to communication.
- Competent in managing and balancing a range of risks to maximise patient care.
- Competent in writing clear reports and notes to a professional standard.
- Competent in using alternative means of communication appropriately for care group.
- Competent in IT skills.
Other job requirements
Essential criteria
- Is able and willing to move around the city.
- Must have a full driving license and access to a vehicle
- Is able to carry a variety of equipment between locations safely.
