Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to take up a band 6 Senior Occupational Therapist (OT) within our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Meadowcroft at Mary Seacole House. This post offers a development opportunity for a current band 5 to have a development plan to support with transitioning and developing band 6 skills.

You will be based on the PICU wards, working as a key member of that team where you will manage, develop and deliver occupational therapy (OT) provision to a designated caseload. You will focus on occupational performance, complex mental health presentations, risk management and evaluating outcomes aligned to personalised care plans. You will implement and facilitate individual and group programmes of clinical intervention in collaboration with Occupational Therapy assistants, activity workers and other professionals for effective recovery and discharge.

Whilst you will be based with a specific ward team, as a member of the wider occupational therapy service there may be occasions when flexibility of location is required to accommodate clinical need. The post holder is expected to work shift patterns provided over a 7-day period, working closely with the band 7 Occupational Therapist, Ward Manager, Matron, Lead Occupational Therapist for Acute and Urgent Care, and the ward multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be joining a hard-working multi-disciplinary team dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for service users and carers and will champion our philosophy of care; that the service user is at the heart of everything that we do.

You will be involved in a variety of professional roles, demonstrating excellent communicate and professional skills and knowledge to work effectively across the service, with the ability to work on your own initiative and as a committed team player. You will provide leadership within the team to include supporting the day-to-day decision making on the ward, being significantly involved in facilitating supervision, taking forward quality initiatives, implementing change and service developments that support the trust strategy. You will be expected to be flexible in your approach and to welcome the opportunity to build on your existing experience and skills.
