Band 6 Counsellor - Birmingham Healthy Minds

Band 6

Please note that this post may close earlier than the indicated closing date if a sufficient number of applications are received.

Job overview

We are looking for either a qualified Counselling for Depression Counsellor or an Accredited Counsellor with a real passion for delivering evidence-based counselling in primary care, who is looking for an opportunity to train in Counselling for Depression (CfD).  Applicants should demonstrate the skills and experience required to operate at Band 6 level, typically gained through post-qualification practice and at least two years post qualification experience of providing psychological therapy for people with mental health problem. The reason the time period is stipulated is because it is an entry requirement for the course. This is for those applying for the post without the required qualification but wanting to train with us.

Therapies are delivered within a stepped care model that is accessible, non-judgemental and responsive to local need. It is an exciting, dynamic and rewarding place to work where staff have the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge. We will invest in successful candidates, offering full salary and course training costs to become an accredited CfD therapist but there is the requirement that this course is completed.  In return BHM seeks commitment from staff to contribute to the service as part of a wider team of highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals who support one another to develop and promote NHS Talking Therapies services to local communities and address health inequalities.

Main duties of the job

Birmingham Healthy Minds is an NHS Talking Therapies Service supporting those aged 16 years and upwards with common mental health problems.

The post holder will be required to hold a senior role within a team of counsellors and therapists who provide talking therapies, counselling services to a broad range of patients who experience mild to moderate mental health problems that would benefit from counselling, with a focus on Counselling for Depression and other IAPT modalities as per the IAPT manual.

The post holder will work as part of an integrated multi disciplinary team comprising, counsellors, psychotherapists, psychological wellbeing practitioners, and trainees within the different disciplines.

The post will offer support to the successful applicant in respect of their professional development and supervision will be given in line with BACP requirements. The post holder will take a lead role, and be integral to the development of the counselling service and to raising the awareness of the benefits of counselling to other mental health professionals.
