Mental Health Services have a real drive to ensure that our workforce has the necessary skills and training to provide excellent care.  We are very excited to recruit a Senior Practice Educator to join the division with a clear remit to support staff development, access to training, supervision, and career progression. 

The ideal candidate will have a passion for mentoring, training, and development, whilst being motivated to learn new skills with the understanding that engagement with staff and service users along this journey is fundamental.

The post holder will be responsible for the planning, delivering and evaluating  training across the Mental Health Division. This will include scoping existing knowledge and skill of the workforce.

The post-holder will work in partnership with Clinical leads to establish, implement, and maintain a developing clinical practice model in Mental Health Services (MHS), which will be underpinned with training, supervision, and professional development.

With training and development being a central element in staff retention, the role will be closely linked with the development and training needs of new and existing roles and will be a supportive resource to clinical staff, Team managers, pathways leads and the wider Trust Education team.

Main duties of the job

 To create an environment where staff feel motivated, supported,     engaged, well led and are able to engage in professional and career development conversations.  

To offer and develop programmes of training and education that facilitate the on-going professional development for all levels of clinical and non-registered clinical workforce.

To act as an expert resource, demonstrating high standards of clinical expertise in the delivery of mental health care.

Maintaining a high clinical profile working with mental health services to educate and develop knowledge and skills.

Establishing and maintaining an effective clinical educational environment that supports staff in the delivery of safe, high quality, evidence-based care for 0-25 year olds (and up to 35 years for our Early Intervention in Psychosis pathway) and their families.

To act as an expert resource, demonstrating high standards of care and clinical expertise in the delivery of mental health care.

To maintain a high clinical profile in the clinical environment supporting and developing staff and contributing to the clinical service needs.

Be highly flexible to support new initiatives, changes to practice and embed evidence-based practice in a wide range of clinical settings.

Knowledge & Nature of Experience

Essential criteria
  • Current / post experience as a Band 6 or above in a Mental Health NHS or health and care environment associated with the practice-based assessment / supervision and mentorship of others to agreed levels of competence.
  • Significant experience of working in an NHS / Health and care provider familiar with a variety of care pathways for Mental Health Services.
  • Confident and experienced practice educator / facilitator with demonstrable experience in using tact, diplomacy and negotiation skills across professional boundaries.
  • Experience in teaching and assessing in clinical practice via a variety of media
  • Experience in teaching/ educating groups or on a one-to one basis on a range of subjects associated with mental health practice.
  • Well-developed supervision and assessment skills, can provide feedback to learners and is able to articulate how learners need to address any actions to enable them to achieve the level of competence and confidence required for associated procedures / tasks / activities
  • Experience in inter disciplinary working across mental health and care settings and educational environments.

Skills/Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate educational practice information pertinent to the role via multimedia routes including written / audio / presentation / face to face/ email /reports and verbally
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and that of others and manage competing agendas with short notice.
  • Proven organisational skills with ability to plan and organise the work of others.
  • Proven teaching/ presentation / facilitation skills and abilities.
  • Ability to plan and implement projects / programmes of work and monitor & report on progress.

Professional/Managerial/Specialist Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the local and national drivers associated with professional development in the area of Youth Mental Health.
  • Good understanding of the preceptorship programme for Newly Qualified Professionals
  • Demonstrable understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion along with health and wellbeing.
  • Experience in teaching or supervising practice within Mental Health
  • Demonstrable understanding of pastoral support to the individual staff members and teams

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC (RMN), HCPC, UKCP registration (with Mental Health professional experience)
  • Professional knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by specialist knowledge of mentorship, education and development practice to master’s level or equivalent experience.
  • Teaching / assessing qualification i.e., PG Cert or willingness to undertake

  • Health care management / leadership training / development
