Job overview

  • The post holder, will be required to undertake a range of tasks working in a busy, fast-paced environment, covering a 24/7 service. Tasks will include, the smooth functioning of the department, Including, The Birth Centre, Delivery Suite, Induction of Labor and The Maternity Emergency Department.
  • You will be the first point of contact for patients & visitors at the reception desk.
  • The post holder is required to ensure that all duties are carried out to a high professional standard, maintaining real-time data management and quality for all ward activity, whilst delivering a friendly, patient-centred service.
  • The post holder, will be required to work alongside Medical and Midwifery staff, as well as other maternity receptionists/ward clerks. 

Main duties of the job

·        To act as a receptionist, to patients/visitors and other staff visiting any of the departments, and will assist with their medical/non-medical enquiries.  Introducing women to the delivery suite, The Birth Centre, Induction of labor suite, Triage and Obstetrics Waiting Lounge (for elective planned patients)

·         To assist in the departments security, by answering the door intercom system, and checking Identity, of visitors and other staff, prior to allowing them access to the immediate area. 

·         To assist in creating a warm, friendly atmosphere within the department, and work as an Integral part of  the team.

·         To answer all telephone calls and deal with queries in a timely manner.  Liaise with the Midwives and relay messages, both verbally and through secure text messages on our new electronic system. 

·         Enter all admissions and Discharges, Including transfers of patients on our electronic system, making sure that all data is recorded accurately. 

·         Daily management of own workload, seeking any other administrative duties when necessary.

·         Meet Trust requirements for mandatory training and participate in the annual appraisal process to fully carry out their duties, or identify training in their Personal Development Plan.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Proven knowledge and experience of working with Patient Records & knowledge of Lorenzo system.
  • Previous reasonable NHS experience (working to A&C band 2 or above).
  • Clear oral and written communication skills & good inter-personal skills.
  • Computer skills - be fully conversant with PAS other relevant computer systems
  • Able to meet deadlines in a pressurized environment Able to prioritise workloads.
  • Good telephone manner.
Desirable criteria
  • Good standard of English and mathematics at GCSE level (or equivalent), grade C or above
  • Be experience in the use of Microsoft office and Excel
  • Previous work experience in patient administration environment
