Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the heart investigations department at Birmingham children’s hospital to appoint a highly motivated Administrator / Receptionist to provide support for the Cardiac Physiologists and cardiac team.
The successful candidate will have excellent administrative and communication skills as well as proven computer skills including Word, Excel and outlook. They will be working in a busy department so will need to communicate effectively with Health Professionals but more importantly act as a first line of contact for our children and parents.
The role involves the use of specialised IT systems such as Heart Suite and EPR for which training will be provided but a need for adaptability, accuracy and confidentiality is essential.

Main duties of the job
To provide a friendly welcome to patients, family, friends and carers attending the Unit. To liaise with technical staff (Cardiac Physiologists and Cardiographers) during clinics to ensure that the clinics are run in an efficient manner and that there is a smooth throughput of workload, liaise directly with patients and parents and other hospital disciplines of staff in order to arrange appointments for patients to attend for cardiac assessment tests.
To deal with telephone enquiries and receive departmental visitors and arrange business appointments as required, liaise with the technical staff (Cardiac Physiologists and Cardiographers) in order to assist in maintaining their workload diary with respect to clinics and pre-booked tests. Being the first point of contact for receiving verbal complaints from patients, and advising them of the Trust Complaints Procedure, contacting PALS where necessary.
