Job overview
The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the Birmingham Women’s Hospital Radiology Department. The role will specifically support the Operations Manager and Clinical Leads to ensure that quality, activity, and financial targets are met.
Main duties of the job
The role involves working within a team of 120 people comprising Consultant Radiologists, Registrars, Clinical Managers, Sonographers, Radiographers, Operational/Service Managers and Administrators.
There will also be a requirement to work closely with colleagues in Maternity, Neonates and Gynaecology at Birmingham Women’s Hospital, and external providers, including in the private sector.
This role provides an opportunity to strengthen existing management and leadership skills to support the development of senior operational management, therefore the duties undertaken may be extended, if appropriate.

Essential criteria
- Good standard of education to A level or equivalent
- Professional management qualification or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of relevant experience
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Minimum 2 years of staff management and leadership experience within an NHS setting
- Knowledge of national patient access targets including diagnostic waiting times
- Working knowledge of the full range of current NHS issues
Desirable criteria
- NHS operational management experience
- Experience of NHS waiting list management
ANALYTICAL AND JUDGEMENT SKILLS
Essential criteria
- Ability to autonomously prioritise workload
- Ability to manage a high volume of complex, conflicting priorities
- Ability to problem solve and identify areas for improvement

Essential criteria
- Excellent IT skills in a range of computerized systems including Microsoft Office

- Experience of direct line management within the NHS
- Knowledge of NHS operational management processes
- Working knowledge of NHS HR policies and procedures
- Knowledge of NHS change management processes
