Job overview

We would like to invite applications for 2x full-time, 10 programmed activities (PA) locum posts, working with five other paediatric nephrology consultants, and an extensive multidisciplinary team providing a comprehensive tertiary nephrology service to the West Midlands. These are 6-month fixed posts, with the potential to extend to 12 months. These posts will be advertised as substantive positions following the locum period.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will share in the provision of a regional service including: regular responsibility for emergency admissions, ward consultations, telephone advice, booked admissions for investigations and day cases. These responsibilities occur during the week on-call (approx. 1:6 or about 8½ weeks in a year). During the on-call week the on-call consultant has no regular clinic commitments so will undertake business ward rounds every day. The on-call service is purely for nephrology and the service covers nephrology for the whole of the West Midlands, as above. The post holder will be asked to undertake regular outreach clinics in consultation with the team, not more frequently than 1per month.

Qulaifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration (or within 6 months of CCT) with entry on the Specialist Register for paediatrics with paediatric nephrology subspeciality.
  • MRCPCH by examination or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Higher Degree (MD, PhD, etc)

Clinical Experience & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Completed competency based clinical training in paediatric nephrology in approved centres before commencing post.
  • BLS (unless included in Mandatory Training)
  • Safeguarding Level 3 Training
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of paediatric nephrology practice in more than one centre
  • Management training
  • Fulfil GMC requirements for training to qualify for Education / Clinical Supervisor role APLS and NLS

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
Desirable criteria
  • Training in medical education e.g. Masters in Medical Education

Research

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of original research including presentation at scientific meetings
  • GCP Training (Research)
