The post holder will be a dedicated paediatric and adolescent rheumatology specialist who will provide the clinical rheumatology service at BWCH and proactively support the education and clinical research programmes within the department.
Main duties of the job
The primary purpose of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical rheumatology service with the other NHS consultants & MDT.
The appointee will be employed by Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital, and as such will be accountable to that Trust for appraisal, job planning, annual leave and study leave. The appointee is expected to be trained in paediatric and adolescent rheumatology and be skilled in intra-articular injections.
Clinically, he or she will share in the provision of the outpatient and inpatient service for paediatric and adolescent rheumatology (including a category B 1 in 5 on call commitment at BCH) and provide inpatient advice for other specialties when requested. At BWCH, out of hours care is provided by the Hospital at Night team and at UHCW by the General Paediatric Team.
The appointee will attend and contribute to the specialised clinics at BWCH, including lupus, juvenile dermatomyositis, and scleroderma.
Clinics undertaken at BWCH will predominantly be jointly undertaken with other consultants and with the MDT. They will be a mixture of general and adolescent clinics. At BCH there is a dedicated weekly adolescent clinic, which facilitates developmentally appropriate care and transfer to adult services.
