Job overview

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to take on a dynamic role as one of the Senior Physiotherapists in Pelvic Health based at the Birmingham Women’s Hospital.    It  will be an excellent opportunity to gain experience within this specialised field of Physiotherapy and work in a supportive team environment.

The post holder will be part of the wider Physiotherapy team within the Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

The Birmingham Women’s Hospital has a reputation as a Centre of Excellence providing high quality care in Women’s Health to the local and regional population.

We are seeking an enthusiastic physiotherapist to join our friendly and motivated team.

We are opening this job opportunity to recruit a Band 6 physiotherapist with experience in pelvic health but will consider therapists new to this specialty or highly driven Band 5 physiotherapists with special interest in pelvic health.  We aim to offer support to gain relevant competencies to progress to a Band 6 level. Experience and knowledge in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy is an advantage.  Due to the nature of this post there is a degree of flexibility in how the hours are delivered.

Main duties of the job

The post offers the opportunity to work within the specialty of  pelvic health.  The current service provision is predominantly out-patient based, with occasional ward work,  and provides assessment and treatment into a number of different conditions throughout different life stages.  This includes but is not exclusive to, bladder or bowel problems, vaginal prolapse, pelvic and sexual pain / dysfunction, OASI and perineal trauma. We are currently involved as a research site in these areas of expertise.

We also manage and provide treatment for pregnant women with pregnancy related low back and pelvic girdle pain.  Birmingham Hospitals are early implementer sites for the Peri-natal Pelvic Health Service with the focus to improve access to care for this population.

Supervision of students and teaching within the department or wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT) is an essential part of the role. There will be an expectation that the post holder will show an interest in service development, audit and research. The ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills is essential to working effectively within this strong multi-disciplinary team. We encourage personal development and actively supports continuous professional development (CPD).
